Appeal for witnesses after report of rape – Reading

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a reported rape in Reading in the early hours of this morning (8/11).

Between 1am and 2am today, a woman was raped by a man in the graveyard at the rear of St Laurence Church in Reading town centre.

The woman had met the man in the town on a night out.

The offender is described as a white man with bushy eyebrows, dark coloured eyes and with hair that was longer on the top and short on the sides.

He was casually dressed, but there is no further description of clothing at this time.

The victim, a woman in her thirties, flagged down a police officer and reported the offence at around 3.30am.

She is being support by Specially Trained Officers.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Conor Hatton, of Force CID at Reading, said: “Our investigation is in its very early stages, but I would like to appeal to anybody who believes they witnessed anything unusual or suspicious between about 1am and 2am today near to St Laurence Church, to call the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 43180341077. You can also visit our website and leave any information there.

“There is currently a scene-watch in place at the churchyard, and the community will notice an increased police presence while we continue our investigation.
